Background, professional training and performance history
Juliana Urban, originally from Northern California, graduated this last June from the University of Oregon's School of Music and Dance with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. Starting at the age of 9, she began singing with school choirs, performing in musicals and participating in the group "Broadway Bound." She studied private voice under Molly Bell and Page Swift while in California. She also sang with her high school's most prestigious choir, the Main Street Singers, where she had the opportunity to sing locally and perform internationally in South America and Scandinavia. While at University of Oregon, she studied voice under Laura Wayte and participated in choirs, the opera program, the early music ensemble, Collegium, and Dance Africa. With the UO Chamber Choir, under direction of Dr. Sharon Paul, she competed in the 2011 International Choral Festival in Tallinn, Estonia. Within the Eugene community, she has sang with the Symphony Chorus for 4 years, performed in the Yuletide Celebration for 2 years, and sang background vocals for local artist Tyler Fortier. Juliana enjoys working with various age groups in a wide range of musical genres.
Artist statement and teaching philosophy
"For me, singing is the most personal form of expression. The voice is a beautiful, sensitive instrument, and unique to each individual. As a teacher, is it my goal to help my students discover their own style while learning techniques to support and enhance their instrument. Through each lesson we will work towards strengthening the voice by using proper breath support, posture, and resonance of the voice. Singing is a personal and passionate form of communication, and each student will discover a new love for music and singing through each voice lesson."
