The period of classic musical comedy (1924-1941, with many great examples beyond) is rich with vibrant characters and show-stopping tunes! Students will learn songs and monologues from some of the classics from the period Oh Kay!, Babes in Arms, Funny Face, Guys and Dolls and Once Upon a Mattress. Songs include “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “I Got Rhythm,” “If I were a Bell,” “Shy,” and “There’s No Business Like Show Business.”
Musical Comedy is the 1st of 3 summer camps offer by The Shedd Institute as a part of its 2014
Musical Theatre Sampler program for youth 5th-8th grade.

At the Musical Theatre Sampler Camp, each student receives a “tool kit” of songs and monologues from which to draw for auditions and performances. Each day begins with a physical and vocal warm up, followed by learning songs and monologues according to the week’s theme. Each student will learn and perform one group song, one gender-appropriate group song, one solo song and two monologues. Students will also learn from “master performers” in listening and viewing sessions. Each camp culminates in a dress rehearsal and final performance of all music and acting studied during the week.
