Maribeth started on piano at age 5. In 1981 she received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the University of Oregon. She taught 7 years at a local private school where she developed a music program teaching 1-8 general music, band and a hand- bell choir. She has been teaching private music for over 20 years. While her strongest instruments are piano and guitar she also tutors her students with their band instruments. As part of the community she has accompanied the Oregon Children's Choir under the direction of Dr. Randy Moore and also had the honor of working with Mason Williams on a few occasions including his album Electrical Gas. As a singer songwriter she has written over 40 songs and has performed locally.
Artist statement and teaching philosophy
"I enjoy teaching students of any age, from the wee young ones to adults who wish they had never quit. I enjoy discovering the unique way each student learns and I custom fit each lesson. Both my piano and guitar students learn basic theory, proper technique, and chord theory. Along with a basic method I supplement with a variety of styles which my students enjoy exploring. I also supplement with games and computer programs which really brings out musical creativity. In the end, I want my students at the age of 25, no matter where they find themselves, to be able to sit at a piano or pick up an instrument and enjoy playing anything they want...just for the pure joy of it."
