School Offerings
The Shedd Institute's Community Music School offers classes and private and semi-private lessons for all ages in a wide
range of musical instruments and styles. The school also runs a series of other programs, include youth vacation
music camps, periodic Elderhostel programs, special workshops associated with select Shedd concerts, and our school music
enrichment program, Music and World Cultures. Need-based financial aid is available.
Private Lessons. Private and semi-private lessons run all year round at The Shedd and can be arranged to fit into your
schedule and interests. You can sign up for private lessons any time and start right away. Just call the Registrar's office at 687-6526,
or drop by the office in person at 868 High Street, and we'll be glad to help you set up lessons for yourself or your child.
Music Classes. Our academic year corresponds roughly to that of Eugene-Springfield's public school calendar: Ten to 12 week
courses are offered fall, winter and spring, with vacation camps filling spring and summer break. You sign up for courses on a term
by term basis, but some you may join in-progress. Ask the Registrar's office! All of the courses offered each term are listed on this
website, so check here for information on current and future courses of study and how you can sign up.
Vacation Camps. Our vacation camps for youth take place each spring and summer break. Our most extensive camps currently
take place during The Shedd's 19-year-old Oregon Festival of American Music, a 3-week tribute to the Great American Songbook. For
over 15 years, we have offered 3 exciting and fun-packed performance-oriented music camps in association with the festival:
The Jazz Academy. Song & Dance Camp, and Junior Vaudeville.
Elderhostel. We offer several week-long and 3-day Elderhostel "SnapShot" programs throughout the year. The week-long
programs occur during our annual Oregon Festival of American Music and include a "songsters" participatory chorus program and
an Intergenerational program, where youngsters 9-12 participate in the Junior Vaudeville camp.
Music and World Cultures is our assembly-style offering to area schools and home schoolers. We hold a 10 am Friday
performance for each of The Magical Moombahs and other special performances by select guest artists throughout the year,
ranging from jazz, Hawaiian, Cajun, Bluegrass, fiddling and more. Each program comes with a curriculum packet for participating
classes. Contac Lisa Calevi (687-6526) for current offerings and logistical details.
