Callan Coleman

I was born and raised in Eugene in 1968. I enjoyed the sweet town Eugene was to grow up in, great parks, nice schools, safe neighborhoods, and a lot of friends. My parents were teachers and musicians. My mom taught elementary, and dad taught at the University of Oregon. I have one sibling, an older brother who plays drums professionally. I earned a Masters Degree from the University of Oregon in 1992 in Counseling Psychology. I worked primarily as a school counselor in the 4j school district until I transitioned into a career in real estate. I have also had an ongoing career in music, performing professionally since 1986. I have been married to an awesome woman, local artist Shelley James for 25 years now. She and I perform together in multiple configurations including as a duo, with our bands Shelley James musicbox, and Satin Love Orchestra. We have a daughter named Eva who is now 9 years old. She is an excellent artist in her own right enjoying learning piano, ukulele, guitar, vocals, and drums. She also is a visual artist painting, and drawing. She hopes to be an architect for her future career.
Why The Shedd?
I was inspired to join the Shedd board for multiple reasons. I have respected the work of the leadership for all of the years they have blessed this town with their contributions to the richness of the arts here. So when I was asked to join, I could not believe the opportunity was being presented to me. I had an “I’m not worthy” moment. Then, as Ginevra and Ralph continued to share the inner workings of the mission I could not resist the chance to have some part in what everyone is doing. I have always had a passion for the arts, and for teaching the youth. I hope deeply that in my culture here in the U.S. we would always make art a priority for our humanity, our growth, our love of life. To be able to participate means the world to me.
