Evynne Hollens' Contemporary Songbook Project 3
Hear My Song
Celebrating the Music of Jason Robert Brown
Sun, May 31, 1:30 - 3:30 pm
Jaqua Concert Hall, The Shedd Institute
Evynne Hollens and the Contemporary Songbook Project return with Shirley Andress, Bill Hulings, Tony Joyner, the fresh young talent of Caleb Hartsfield & Abby Howell and special guests Dylan Stasack for another evening of music from the “contemporary” American Songbook.
This year's show will specifically highlight the music of American musical theater composer, lyricist, and playwright Jason Robert Brown, best known for his dazzling scores to several of the most renowned musicals of his generation, including the recently revived & adapted for film The Last Five Years, his debut song cycle Songs for a New World, and the seminal Parade, for which he won the 1999 Tony Award for Best Score. Jason Robert Brown has been hailed as “one of Broadway’s smartest and most sophisticated songwriters since Stephen Sondheim” (Philadelphia Inquirer), and his music has been heard all over the world, whether in one of the hundreds of productions of his musicals every year or in his own memorable live performances. The New York Times refers to Jason as “a leading member of a new generation of composers who embody high hopes for the American musical.”
Hollens & her team will perform hits from every JRB musical to date – including the most recent Broadway smash Honeymoon In Vegas starring Tony Danza. Other notable songs on the show include "A Little More Homework", "Mr. Hopalong Heartbreak", "Stars and the Moon" and highlights from Brown's richly melodic The Bridges of Madison County.
In its 3rd edition, Evynne Hollens' Contemporary Songbook Project is a celebration of the best of the new generation of songwriters working within the classic songbook tradition in the world of post modern musical theatre. If editions 1 and 2 were any indication, it will be another evening not to miss!
